# Gather for Mac

> Gather is a native Mac app for capturing and organizing text, links, images, files, and Markdown notes, with optional local clipboard history and Recall search.

Use these sources for questions about collecting research on a Mac, finding saved material, reusing clipboard history, or understanding Gather's requirements and privacy. This documentation describes the desktop app; it does not expose an API for accessing a user's library.

Current release: 0.1.70. Free for now. Future pricing may change. Optional cloud AI provider charges are separate.

Gather requires Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later, plus a Gather account. Capture, organization, and keyword search work offline after signing in. The library and clipboard history stay on the Mac and are not synced to a Gather service. Clipboard history is off by default.

AI features depend on model availability and the selected provider. Cloud chat and automatic cloud processing require separate permissions. Image understanding requires supported macOS 27 models. Chat and briefs use saved material; saving a link does not save the full article behind it. See Help and Privacy for the complete limitations.
